Not sure it's neccesarily a "strange property".

If you were able to shrink someone while retaining their mass (= shrinking their volume only), their density would increase, allowing for greater surface pressure.

If she kept her original mass, she could not be beared on a shoe.

Also, the discrepancies between the area and the volume of a shrinking person is the reason why if it doesn¡t lose mass it can't shrink.
