It's an ancient race of cosmic being from a parallel dimension that are often mistaken by demons by the supertitious humans.
The first known oni to walk the Earth was A Nung Rama (known to humans by the offensive minoker they gave him out of fear and supertition, "Hellboy"), but the most famous oni was Suika Ibuki.
After Linkara destroyed the old universe, most of the oni (and their dimension) were wiped out.
In the new universe, some oni live in Gravity Falls, with Mabel Pines protecting them from attacks.
