I kind of notice this a lot where you see no signs of body hair from a distance, but then see a forest up close. It kind of makes sense when the hair in question is light. But when it's brown or black... You'd see any it if there was any.
Maybe it's just easier to draw clean skin than haired. Kind of one of those detail things I notice with a lot of armpit and pubic hair-related pics.
On another note... scales with a bit of fur are always a nice treat.
