I've been analyzing this situation for approximately 10 minutes straight and I've yet to find the solution to this dilemma/theory of yours. The boat clearly signifies he is spending time away from the mainland off in the distance. The oars show is these cloths were probably not used as a sail, aside from the fact that there's no mast on the boat. Other than that, these cloths are set up in such a way that they would most likely be used as a shelter. He has other cloths on the boat. He's storing his caught fish in the water in her belly button, however the box on his boat may indicate that is where he will store them once his fishing trip is done. Even knowing this, however, he has an outdoor cooking utensil, meaning he is most likely going to cook them right there and then. If we're to assume he's planning on spending the night, then that giantess either doesn't require sleep or must not have had as much foresight as the man did.
