I've just always had an interest in shrinking ever since I was a young'un, and it never went away. Of course, when that blends with being a teenager, it turns into a fetish.
I blame the media, because there was a LOT of stuff near the turn of the century about shrinking; Minish Cap, George Shrinks, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, and even stuff like Mario Party 4 with its focus on the Mega Mushroom and Mini Mushroom items, that one episode of Chowder with the Cinnimini Monster, and the LittleBigPlanet series (since you're already a 3-inch-tall doll), with notable scenes including the Dancer's Court in LBP1 and Invasion of the Body Invaders in LBP2, for that brief moment where you're shrunken next to Eve.
Ironically, I never even played Sly 3 until 2015, but I'd already heard about this sequence multiple times before then. Real talk, I can easily say it's one of the best scenes in the game, though runner-ups include the first General Tsao battle, the airplane dogfights, and the entire Cooper Vault.
