I never understood "gun swords". Like are you a gun, or are you a sword? Ya can't be both so make up yo damn mind!

"Gun swords" did actually exist for a short period, though they weren't particularly good. Usually a flintlock pistol and a relatively short sword, though I think there were a couple very early revolver ones too. The mechanism would be mounted onto one side of the blade, with the barrel flush to it so that it wouldn't hit itself when firing.

Who cares if the don't make sense? They're GUN SWORDS, for crying out loud. Rule of Cool immediately validates them in many people's eyes.

Gunswords didn't have to be good
The sword was the primary attribute, and the gun could harm or severely disorient a person during a stalemate
Practice, however, proved there were many other more reliable methods
