The Doctor often referred to himself as the protector of Earth. He made it very clear that he considered Clara as just a companion.

This arrogant side of the Doctor annoyed Clara, so she took great pleasure in seeing The Doctor knocked down to size - literally. Two-dimensional beings from another reality were trying to invade and were leaching dimensional energy from wherever they could in an attempt to make themselves have depth. When they turned their attention on The Doctor's ship, the TARDIS - a rich source of dimensional energy, the result was its reduction in size as they drained it. With the TARDIS shrunk and the Doctor trapped inside, it was up to Clara to save the day on her own.

Despite The Doctor's constant criticisms over her earpiece, Clara had managed to work out a solution. She'd found a way to trick the invaders into firing the dimensional energy they'd taken back into the TARDIS.

As the invaders got ready to unknowing fire their reserves into the TARDIS a question formed in Clara's head - where would all that dimensional energy actually be best used? Was it actually worth restoring the TARDIS and The Doctor to normal? Well, they weren't of much help before being reduced in size. Maybe she could use the energy better? After all, she'd done The Doctor's job herself - did she even need him any more? And seeing the tiny TARDIS and carrying it round with the Doctor inside all day had awoken something in her.

She made a decision and just as the invaders' energy started to pour out of them Clara jumped in the way. She screamed as the dimensional energy poured into her - but it wasn't a scream of pain - it was one of pure ecstasy. She felt herself starting to enlarge as her body became saturated with the excess of power being poured into her.

"Clara... what are you doing?" she heard in angry Scotch tones through her earpiece.

"Sorry Doctor..." was all she could manage before bursting through the roof of the tunnel they were in.

After a few minutes her growth subsided and Clara inspected herself to find she was now the size of a tower block. Around her feet she could see the invaders advancing on her, trying to maintain their three-dimensional bodies. She lifted her foot and stomped them back into being 2D.

Then something unexpected happened - Clara could feel herself increasing in size again. It wasn't as much growth as before but it added several feet to her height.

"Clara! Do you know what you've done?!" she heard the Doctor rant through her ear piece.

Clara sighed, she had no patience now for the Doctor's ethical rants.

"I protected my planet, if you've got a problem with that you can go under my boot as well."

"Not that!" he replied, before pausing as he processed her threat, "Erm... what I mean is - do you know what just happened? You absorbed their dimensional energy directly. The influx of energy had caused your body to mutate in response - its learnt to control the flow of the energy."

"So?"

"So... you can redirect the energy you've got stored up in that oversized body of yours back into the TARDIS."

"You're right... " started Clara, but then another idea crossed her mind, "... or, I could drain the remaining dimensional energy from the TARDIS and get even bigger."

The Doctor watched in horror as his gigantic companion looked down on him inside his shrunken TARDIS and started to reach towards it. He dived straight for the ship's console and flipped the lever for an evasive manoeuvre. The TARDIS didn't have much power left - even a small hop in time was beyond its capabilities now - all he could do was try and fly it away.

Clara watched as the tiny TARDIS spun into the air and flew over the city. She rose back to her full height and started to stomp after it. Keeping up with The Doctor was easy with her new long legs, but keeping an eye on his tiny ship - especially in the dark of night - was proving difficult. It wasn't long until Clara lost sight of the little box... but she knew it couldn't have gone far.

The giant Clara emerged from between the last two buildings she'd seen the little TARDIS fly between and scanned the city.

"Oh Doctor? Where are you?" her voice rang out across the night.

"Clara!" The Doctor's voice once again came through her ear piece, "You've gone mad! If you take the TARDIS' dimensional energy I'll be trapped forever - I won't be able to protect Earth."

Clara just laughed, "Ha... I'm Earth's protector now."

Meta: Another attempt at trying to create the shot of a giantess emerging between buildings. I think I know what has inspired me now - there's a scene in the 50th Anniversary special of Doctor Who were Clara climbs out of her 'hiding place' (spoilers) into the Black Archive. It fits what I am trying to recreate with these collages - though I have no idea where the size-vibes for that image come from in my head.

I took screenshots from the scene mentioned above (in HD) to make this collage with. For once the hand actually belongs to the model and I know its in exactly the right place as that's how they lined up in the source. However, I ended up getting screenshots of the hand and the rest Jenna separately. This is because I loved the shot of her with her hair hanging down but it only appears when her hand is out of shot. This use of separate screenshots might be why her hand doesn't quite seem to match the rest of her.

Doctor Who fans may have noticed that the story is an alternative ending to the episode Flatline. I loved that episode but was a bit disappointed that it didn't do more with size beyond the shrunken TARDIS.
