Surprise was key.
That was why the protagonist needed to parachute in before taking his dose of the growth formula. If he grew too soon, the giantess would see him coming and carry out her threat to bring more destruction to the city beneath her.
The formula was incredibly potent and fast acting. It was what had created the titan below him, and now it was going to aid him in stopping her. Assuming he was able to land within a few blocks of the giantess, he'd be able to grow big enough to subdue her before she even knew he was there.
The plan seemed fool-proof - but there was one factor it forgot to take into account. It turns out that when someone grows, their senses grow with the rest of them. The protagonist was halfway through his decent when the giantess suddenly turned to the skies.
He didn't normally feel fear, but having something so large suddenly shift their attention towards him made his blood run cold. He hoped she couldn't see him. Surely she couldn't? He was smaller than an ant to her! But all his hope was dashed when the giantess' eyes focussed in on him.
"Oh, what's this?!" her booming voice buffeted his decent, "A flying insect?"
The giantess then sniffed the air and smiled.
"Oh... and he's brought more growth formula!!" she squealed excitedly.
The protagonist could do nothing as he watched the giantess below move into position, before opening wide to receive him.
Her maw was several city blocks wide, even if he pulled his chute now he wouldn't be able to get clear of it. He closed his eyes and made peace with his fate.
so much for the element of surprise.
META: I wanted to make a neon city themed Giantess. Yes, I did do one before but I had to remove it as it turns out it was a dummy account on twitter that granted me the permission for the shot I used (thanks Elon for letting anyone grab the blue checkmarks!) - the actual model wasn't too pleased with it. So here I am with another swing at it. I also ticked off another trope I've been wanting to do which is the giantess looking up with their mouth open about to swallow someone falling towards them.
