@Cornelius This is the method I was trying to work with. Unfortunately I sold my gaming rig (no time in college), so I don't have a PC with enough horsepower to dick with it more.
So you're definitely on the right track (from what I've found, anyways), but I ran into trouble with Blender right away. All I could discern is that for whatever reason Blender breaks the model down into 4-5 files (which does make sense) but is only able to scale 3-4 of them (which doesn't), thus leading to the model having *no* face rigging. I personally used Blender instead of Maya because Blender had some easy addons for importing/exporting SFM files.
